Heehaw Pulls Through at the Scottish Design Awards
We received two stellar (and weighty) awards at the Scottish Design Awards.
The ceremony was held on the 29 of June at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Glasgow, a welcome change from the virtual award ceremonies we’ve grown used to over the last few years.
The awards recognise excellence in design and architecture throughout Scotland, as well as selecting a young designer of the year.
We won in our category of Moving Imagery and Design with our Level Up animation for our client Baillie Gifford alongside our co-winner Revenant for their incredible promotional film also, funnily enough, for Baillie Gifford.
Level Up was a love letter to the retro video games of many of our childhoods co-opted into a flashy animation promoting the Technology Solutions Graduate Program at Baillie Gifford. We worked closely with the amazing producers at BG to help bring their creative to life, and both teams are delighted with the results.
But perhaps the most exciting award we received was our very own illustrator winning the Young Designer of the Year award!
Sammi Duong is a talented young illustrator who puts her all into every project she works on.
After graduating from university in 2021, Sammi’s work has shifted the ways in which our clients represent themselves.
She always ensures that every animation she works on has as diverse a cast of characters as possible so everyone can see themselves represented on screen as much as possible.
It’s an incredibly well deserved accolade for Sammi and we couldn’t be prouder.
Toby, our MD, commented: “It was such a buzz to win this award with Baillie Gifford. The video itself was a real team effort by several artists across the departments, and with competition in the category being so strong, we’re delighted with the result. The double win for BG is testament to the effort they are putting into creating new and exciting projects for folk like us to get our teeth into. Ultimately though, Sammi being awarded Young Designer of the Year was the absolute highlight. She’s so deserving of it and everyone was rooting for her. An emotional moment for us all!”
Congratulations to all the winners! We cannot wait to see you all next year.
